OnePlus Mobile phone in Bangladesh
OnePlus was founded in December 2013 by former Oppo executives Pete Lau and Carl Pei to produce high-end smartphones at more affordable prices than competitors. Their first phone, the OnePlus One, launched in 2014 and originally used the Cyanogen OS version of Android. After legal issues with Cyanogen in India, OnePlus developed its own Android variant called OxygenOS in 2015.
The young company utilized unique marketing tactics like an invite-only purchasing system and “Smash the Past” contest to generate buzz. Over the next few years, OnePlus expanded beyond China into India, Southeast Asia and Europe with new phone models. In 2020, they released the Nord series, their first mid-range devices since the OnePlus X in 2015. That October, co-founder Carl Pei left the company to start Nothing. The following year, OnePlus merged its smartphone research and development with Oppo as the companies built closer ties, also integrating their Android software bases. While gaining success,
OnePlus has faced controversies related to sexist marketing, faulty USB-C cables, customer service problems, and accusations of app throttling. Despite its issues, the company has shaken up the industry by delivering high-spec phones with unique features at more affordable price points.
